Shian Cottage B&B
Originally built in 1840 Shian Cottage is now a relaxed family home in a picture book country location. Set in a ¼ acre of grounds with panoramic views across beautiful and dramatic countryside it’s just a stroll from the River Braan and the mystical deserted fairy village at Balinloan is nearby.
Adrian and Sheila offer their guests a warm welcome in two comfortable double bedded rooms. There’s a choice of a downstairs room with en suite shower & toilet facilities or an upstairs double with private bathroom. Meals at Shian recognise the wealth of the local produce available - whether it's local free range eggs or Mr Pirie's award winning sausages and bacon - usually accompanied by home-made bread or cakes.
Shian is in the hamlet of Trochry, less than four miles west of Dunkeld on the track of General Wade’s road, trodden in the past by visitors ranging from Rob Roy and Bonnie Prince Charlie to Beatrix Potter. This area of Strathbraan (taking its name from the River Braan), is often known as the ‘Secret Strath’ - part of Perthshire's secret storybook territory of straths and glens.- Amulree, Strathbraan and Glen Quaich lie within a golden triangle, between Dunkeld, Aberfeldy and the Sma Glen.
Walking or cycling adventures begin at Shian’s gates and short car journeys can take you through dramatic Highland landscapes to some of Scotland’s most beautiful tourist treasures and visitor attractions. For more active or ‘hands on’ adventure there are sporting opportunities for all the family. Just ask.
Peaceful, secluded, and off the beaten path, Trochry is but a few minutes from the A9 and the mainline railway station of Dunkeld & Birnam and en route to Crieff, Crianlarich and the West Highland Way. Even the A93 leading from Perth up to Glenshee, Braemar, Balmoral and beyond is soon reached.
